Spatial dependencies in Czech variety testing trials on sugar beet

Summary:
In a paper the results of 9 trials on sugar beet conducted in 1998 by Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture, Czech Republic, are reviewed. All these trials were conducted in resolvable incomplete block designs in three replicates. Three characteristics were observed. All the data were analysed using randomised complete block approach (ignoring partition of complete superblocks into incomplete blocks) and using incomplete block approach. The effectiveness of incomplete blocks was checked. For the first version of analysis the residuals in a field order were calculated and next used for calculating semivariograms. These were next modelled using different, proposed in literature, functions. It was shown that there existed spatial dependence in majority of all analysed trials, but its extent was dependent on characteristic involved.
