Title:
The comparison of traditional UPOV uniformity criterion and new approach based on Bennett’s test for coefficients of variation
Language:
English
Keywords:
coefficient of variation
DUS testing
uniformity
Summary:
In a paper the decisions concerning uniformity of varieties based on traditional UPOV criterion and new one based on application of Bennett’s test for coefficients of variation are compared. In a traditional method the standard deviations of varieties are compared. To avoid difficulties caused by different levels of expressions of characteristics under investigation, the varieties are ranged according to their mean values and comparisons are made within groups of varieties characterized by similar mean values. In a new approach the whole group of varieties can be compared as difficulties caused by different levels of expressions are overcome by comparing coefficients of variability instead of standard deviations. All considerations are illustrated with trial data concerning winter rye varieties.
