Summary:
In the paper the authors have made an effort to evaluate, based on phenotypic values, a variation in a variety collection of 153 forms and cultivars of strawberries coming from a collection of the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice. 11 characters describing growth habit as well as quality of fruits were considered. Diversity of genotypes was studied for three groups of strawberries separately: for early maturing strawberries, mid-early maturing as well as late maturing ones. For the distinguished three groups the principal component analysis was applied. Its aim was specify the phenotypic diversity in a possibly small dimension. That allowed to distinguish features with the strongest discriminating power. The division into homogeneous groups was achieved by hierarchical cluster analysis with Ward’s method and the square of Euclidean distance.
