Summary:
Seasonal patterns in incidence of insulin dependent diabetes (IDDM) in Poland were evaluated using the method as described by Jones. This method fits sine waves into the data with a fundamental period of one cycle per year and has a possibility of using up to three harmonics. Maximum likelihood estimation was used to determine the parameters of the model. Likelihood ratio tests and Akaike’s information criterion (AIC) were used to determine the number of harmonics.
