Summary:
In the paper it was attempted to estimate the soil variability of the experimental fields in which winter triticale and potato cultivation experiments were situated. The estimation was done with respect to basic quantitative characteristics of both crop plants by calculating the index of soil variability b following the Koch–Rigney method. Errors of index b estimation sb were utilised as measures of the estimation precision. The evaluation of the plant vegetation environment by means of this index varied in vegetation seasons and changed for basic winter triticale and potato characteristics. It was found that the influence of external factors was smaller in the case of the potato experiments, in which values b, describing small soil heterogeneity, constituted the greatest percentage. Precision of the index b estimation was satisfactory in all the experiments because the estimation errors sb did not exceed the level of 60% of respective values of this index.
