Summary:
The problem of optimal relationship between the number of replicates, measurements and years in series of DUST (distinctness, uniformity and stability) trials is discussed. The solution is searched out in which the discriminating power of characteristics is taken into account. All the problems discussed are illustrated with use of the results of series of DUST trials on winter rye in which five characteristics were observed.
